Face Detection

I spend a lot of my time reading about Consumer Electronics (CE). I like to keep abreast of what happens in that sector( it spares me from the Monotony of MU !!) . One of the most interesting new practical technologies I have come across is Face Detection in Digital Cameras.

The camera can Find the Subjects Face in the Image and adjust Exposure & Focus for the person's Face. It does this by triangulating 2 eyes & a mouth. It even works for People wearing Spectacles.The camera will follow the person while they move in the photo frame until they move out of the snap or turn their face away from the Lens.

Not just that it will even work with group Photographs with about 10 people- it also will allow you to identify the most important (primary) face in the photograph. So if you are taking a Group Photo & your girlfriend is in it you can impress her by really getting her Face a bit crisper in the Snap!!

One of the pioneers of this technology is Fuji with one of their best implementations being the Fuji Finepix S6000fd (fd= face detection). Canon has also implemented it well in the Powershot G7. Fuji even has a dedicated Hardware LSI chip that accomplishes this faster than some slow only software based approach.
